The Story Behind Chef Alyssa's Kitchen

It’s definitely Chef Alyssa’s kitchen, but it takes a whole family to run it.
We love what we do, and can’t wait to share our meals, cooking classes and experiences with you.

How We Got Started – 2013

Chef Alyssa has been cooking her entire life. Her passion for making good food was equally matched by a desire to lead a balanced, active lifestyle. She has worked at some of Charlotte’s favorite restaurants and became an executive chef at just 26. She met Andrew Wilen, an energetic event planner and marketer, in the fall of 2011, and the two began dating.

A year later, the pair decided to do what many couples do at this point. Just kidding. They started a business together. Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen opened its doors in 2013 inside of Atherton Market with the goal of providing a comfortable, social environment where guests can learn to cook and eat well.

A lot has happened since then. Andrew and Alyssa did get married, and then had two children. Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen won a bunch of awards, appeared on national and local tv shows and recognized in regional and national publications as one of the best in the biz. In 2018, Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen expanded to lower South End in the Bowers Complex. They customized a state-of-the-art kitchen with multiple culinary rooms and launched food offerings: team lunch, holiday catering and family table to-go meals. As the company has grown, so has the culinary team that supports it. Every member of the Chef Alyssa’s team brings his or her own special talents to the table, but they all live to share the art and joy of cooking with others…whether in our kitchen or yours. Click here to meet the team.

History Milestones

“How do you go from where you are to where you want to be? I think you have to have an enthusiasm for life. You have to have a dream, a goal. You have to be willing to work for it.” — Jimmy V.

Our Manifesto

Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen has been inviting Charlotte to learn the art of chef-inspired creations in approachable ways for over a decade.

Since the beginning, we’ve been driven by the desire to help our customers feed themselves and their families through our fun and interactive cooking classes, easy lunch catering options, and our take-home meals. We have always been and always will be dedicated to helping everyone eat good food with zero overwhelm. Food that’s healthful, simple, nutritious, easy, local, and delicious.

We know our impact is stronger when we work together so we prioritize deeply rooted relationships with our local farmers – and you get to reap the benefits. Everything we help you create, and anything we make for you, is intentionally selected with integrity and based on seasonality. We’ve created an innovative composting and recycling center on-site that has sustainability at the forefront of what we do. In addition – all of our catering and to-go containers are fully compostable. Our vision is not just providing solutions, it’s also educating and helping others because we believe in the power of sustainability.

On every step of the journey from the field to your table and back again, Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen is passionate about acting with care for you, for each other, for our farmers, for our employees, and for the planet. High-quality ingredients. A fun engaging environment. Positive relationships. Sustainable practices. And, as always, great food for you and your family.

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to share our food and experience with you.
